Year 3 & 4 Maths Challenge 31.10.2023

1) Which of these numbers would you come to when counting in sixes from zero?
How do you know?

2) Would you get to some of these numbers if you were counting in sevens from zero? Which ones?
Can you explain how you arrived at your answers?

3) Could some of these numbers be reached if you were counting in nines from zero? Which ones?
Again, how do you know?

4) Would your answers be the same if you counted in the same step sizes but down from 350 in each case?
How do you know?

Looking at the image above and this time counting in 25s from zero, which numbers will you land on?
If you were counting in 25s from 10, which numbers would you land on this time?  How can you work this out without actually counting?

Attendance support

 Good morning,

Do you fancy a coffee or tea and a chat in a relaxed non-judgemental environment? We will be offering an attendance support hub from Wednesday 1st November 2023, for all parents to discuss strategies and gain support from our home school support workers (HSSW) and our educational welfare officer (EWO). These will be fortnghtly from 8:50-9:30 as a drop-in for parents/carers and will be a good opportunity to meet with other parents/carers who are dealing with similar issues in a secure space.

Year 4 cinema trip

Please complete form here

Year 4 cinema trip

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted to inform you that a trip has been booked for our Year 4 children. In celebration of the Into Film Festival, the children will be attending a viewing of ‘Epic Tails' at Cineworld in Ilford.

On Wednesday 15th November, all children should be in school by 8.30am as we will be leaving promptly at 8:45am. We will be travelling by bus and train and expect to arrive back at school by 1 pm.

The children will eat lunch at school once we have returned from the cinema. In case we are back late that day, all children will eat a packed lunch (provided by school or home). All children are now eligible for a free school meal (including a packed lunch for a school trip). Should your child require a lunch provided by the school, please select this below so that we can process your order in time for your child’s trip. Alternatively, children can bring their own packed lunch in a carrier bag that is clearly labelled with their name and class. Children are more than welcome to bring their own snacks and soft drink to consume whilst watching the film.

We will need some parent volunteers to help out on the day. Please register your interest on the form, if you would like to accompany your child's class on the trip. Please note that parent volunteers will be chosen on a first come, first served basis, as we have a limited number of cinema tickets available. We will also take into account which parents have already had the opportunity to accompany us on a trip.

We are extremely fortunate to not only have received these tickets free of charge in celebration of the annual Into Film Festival. We cannot wait to enjoy this fun day out with Year 4!

Yours faithfully,

Year 4 Team

Year 4 certificates

And just like that, we have come to the end of the first half term. The time has flown by and the children have worked exceptionally hard. Everyone deserves a good rest. To conclude this half term in Maths, the children have been learning about addition and subtraction: including exchanging and regrouping. In Literacy, we have finished writing our narrative poems, inspired by Michael Rosen. We are all excited to see what the next half term holds.

There have been some children who have word superbly this week and earned themselves a certificate. Well done to all of them.

Year 3 Certificates

Well done to all of the children in Year 3 this week! They have worked extremely hard.

In Maths, they have been developing their understanding of adding and subtracting tens across a hundred. The children have been using number lines, part whole models and bar models to make connections between the numbers. They have all shown great resilience when completing their tasks.

In Literacy, they have each completed an independent write for our story, 'The Tale of two Robots', using clear paragraphs, super sentence starters and amazing adjectives.

The children have also been celebrating Black History Month, this week, with some amazing artwork and a wonderful dance routine.

Let's give our certificate winners a 'spec-tacular!'

E for E - Maalik, Melody and Ivan

Star Writer - Miqdaad, Isabella and  Ksenija

4R's - Jessica, Andreea and Ayla

Teacher Happy - Hussain and Patrick

Have a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 31st October !

Stone Age Wow Day!

The children in Year 3 had the best day when they were transported back to the Stone Age on Tuesday! From the moment they arrived in school they were immersed in activities linked to our History topic, Stone Age.

The children took part in creating cave paintings in the dark, they used their reciprocity skills whilst attempting to make mammoth bones from play dough and drew on their resourcefulness skills when thinking of how to recreate Stonehenge from different materials.

We made cave art like the Stone Age but we had torches and they had fire! - Ryan
