Outdoor Maths - who needs fancy resources??

In Maths this week, year 3 and 4 have been learning how to decompose subtraction questions using the column method.

We started by using Dene blocks to help us understand how to exchange one ten block for ten one blocks and then applied our learning to objects in nature outside.

Some of us used pebbles as having a value of ten and gravel as having a value of one, while others used twigs or even flowers to count as a value of ten!

We had lots of fun creating and answering subtraction questions using resources from nature.
