Birch makes Juice and tests the Acidity!

Today, Birch class were introduced to their new science topic of Water, Acids and Alkalies! The students had many questions about the nature of acids, how strong they can be, and where they can be found in everyday life. Their task consisted of making orange juice from oranges and mandarins, then test its level of acidity...

Here, Tommy and Summer Rose can be seen dipping their pieces of universal indicator paper into the juice to see which colour it turned...

Having made a prediction at the start of the lesson, the students confirmed whether or not their prediction was correct.

Sofia asked some fantastic questions about what would happen if you added an acid to an alkali, and Adi wanted to know if the dangers of strong alkalies were the same of strong acids. There were more curious questions from other members as well. Good work, Birch Class, we will continue Water, Acids, and Alkalies next week!
