Fractions in Year 3

The year 3 children have had a superb start to the Summer term by continuing their work on fractions. This week, children have been exploring how to find unit and non-unit fractions of an amount. They started by exploring the method practically using multi-link.

"We learnt that in order to find a fraction of an amount, you must first divide the amount into equal groups using the denominator," Amandeep, Sequoia.

"If it is a unit fraction, the numerator is one which means that once you have separated the amount into equal groups, you only need to find the amount in one group," James, Sequoia.

"If it is a non-unit fraction, you would find the amount in the number of groups that is shown by the numerator," Michael, Sequoia.

Great work year 3!
