Passionate Debates In Year 4!

In their topic lessons, students are continuing to learn about the reasons for, and impacts of, deforestation. This knowledge links into their literacy unit for the term where they need to write a balanced argument. To support students' understanding of the reasons 'for' and 'against' this industry, students participated in a debate with their peers. They were able to put forth their arguments in a respectful and formal manner; allowing one speaker at a time and using phrases of debate to begin their arguments. They selected their strongest points to present, and were able to challenge their opponents back and forth with further evidence. It was lovely seeing the children able to interact with different opinions in such a positive manner. We look forward to them combining their literacy and topic knowledge to produce their final piece.
