Cool Coordinates in Year 4!

For this past Summer Term, we have been learning about coordinates.

As our starter activity, we went outside to travel to different coordinates. We needed to record the direction of travel and how much across or along the axis was needed to get from our start point to our end destination.

The children had to be resourceful and use a birds-eye map view of the school to travel to their destinations. They also had to demonstrate their reciprocity skills as they worked as a team; well done Year 4!

"We always need to remember; along the corridor and up the stairs!" - Hannah, Ash

"I love coordinates and geography, they really make me feel like a navigator! Just like Matthew Henson!" - Adrian M, Larch

"Another word for moving coordinates is translation." - Iniya, Birch

Talented Tessellations in Year 4

In Art, we have been exploring geometric shapes. We have been comparing and classifying geometric shapes, including quadrilaterals and triangles, based on their properties and sizes.
Along with this, we have explored tessellation. A tessellation is a repeating pattern that fills a space without overlapping. Tessellated patterns are used in many ways. Often, Roman homes and buildings were decorated and built using tessellated patterns. Tessellating patterns and floral designs are also commonly found in Islamic art.

Please see some of the amazing tessellations that Birch class have created below.

"Wow, tessellation is so cool. Look at all those amazing patterns." David, Birch.

"It is really important to concentrate when drawing straight lines with a ruler. You need to be careful so that the ruler doesn't move and you have the same pattern all the time." Medeea, Birch.

"I love art. It is my favorite subject and I love creating colourful patterns." Happiness, Birch.

Well done Birch class. All of these patterns look amazing. You are all brilliant artists of Year 4!

Year 3 & 4 Spellings - W/C 24.05.21

As we are using this last week of half term to assess the children's progress in years 3 and 4, we will not be doing our usual spelling test on Friday. Instead, the children can use this week to look back on their spellings for the year and practise any words that they found challenging.

Please continue to encourage the children to read for at least 15/20 minutes every evening and play on Rock Star times tables every night for 15 minutes.

As always, thank you for your continued support.
