Science in Year 4

Our Year 4's have delved into their first Science unit of the year - The Digestive System.

They have been exploring the journey of food and that key parts of our body support the breaking down of food from the entry point of the body, to the exit point.

In addition to the highlight of successfully saying and spelling oesophagus, the children furthered their understanding of the digestive system by undertaking a science experiment this week!

The Year 4's demonstrated that they are reflective learners as they were able to make connections with the resources used in the experiment and how they represent the different parts of the digestive system, using the knowledge that they have gleaned so far this half-term.

'I cant believe this is what our intestines do!' - Lily-Mae
'This is disgusting.' - Jack

'The lemon juice represents the acid in our stomach.' - Ali

Some even displayed resilience when conducting the experiment as the texture of the food in the 'intestines' stage was understandably nauseating.

'Is this really what happens inside of us?' - Zayd

In all, this experiment further exposed the brilliance of our biology and we look forward to our next steps in learning.
