This half term in maths we have finished our addition and subtraction topic and have now began building on our knowledge of multiplication and division. Our purpose with these topics is to build on pupils previous knowledge in these areas and increase the challenge. To support pupils we have been using a lot of objects such as cubes, counters and even dry pasta! This supports pupils by allowing them to physically see how numbers can be shared and grouped to show multiplication and division.
This week in Maths, we have had a big focus on times tables, sharing and grouping numbers. We have shared numbers into equal groups to find the answers to division sums and have created equal groups to show multiplication. To add a fun element to the Maths, we have completed some exciting practical tasks this week, and created arrays to multiply numbers by 5 and 10! Year 3 worked really hard to create an array to match their sums. They used their knowledge of columns and rows to support them in finding the correct answers. All of the year 3 staff are very proud -well done.
It was fun to learn about multiples of 5 and 10! - Nashwan (Cedar Class)
I like using the cubes in maths! It makes it more fun - Riley (Cherry Class)
Grouping numbers is fun!- Isabella (Ash Class)
