Math Marvels!

In Math this half term we have continued learning about addition and subtraction! Recently, our focus has been on using the column method to find the answers to sums. We started using the method without any exchanging or regrouping and have worked our way up to answering more challenging sums.

This week we have looked at adding and subtracting two numbers crossing tens. We have learned about exchanging one ten for ten ones when subtracting, and regrouping our ten ones into one ten when adding.

In todays lesson, we put our knowledge to the test by adding and subtracting across a ten! Pupils had to identify which operation they were asked to use, then use the column method to find the correct answer.

Year 3 you are smashing the column method at the moment! Keep up the brilliant work!

Cedar - "I use my whiteboard to find the answers, that way I can rub it out if I make a mistake" - Jaabir

Ash - "I find it fun when we exchange the tens because we get to cross out the numbers" - Millen

Cherry - "It is much easier to add when crossing tens. Subtracting is more challenging" - Vrisha and Harry

Y4 Fantastic Footballers

A fantastic group of Year 4 pupils recently took part in a highly competitive tournament, joining dozens of schools from across Havering. Their performance was nothing short of outstanding, not only for their skill and determination but also for their exceptional sportsmanship and teamwork.

From the very first whistle, these young athletes demonstrated true grit, supporting one another, lifting each other's spirits, and showing respect to their opponents. With every pass, goal, and cheer, they embodied the values of fair play and unity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.

Their remarkable team spirit made them true champions, both on and off the field!  Well done, boys!

Year 3 Certificates

It's been another wonderful week of learning in Year 3 and the children have been working hard and have made excellent progress in their learning.

In Literacy, the children suggested ways to help their partner overcome their fear of the dark. They then created an adverb word bank to help them improve their writing of a letter to the King. This letter suggested ways that the King could overcome his fear of the dark.

In Maths,  the children built upon their existing knowledge of the column method. They worked on questions which involved adding and subtraction 2 numbers with no exchange. It was wonderful to see the children bursting with pride at their progress in this area. Well done!

Here are the certificate winners for this week...

Remembrance Day in Year 4

This week, in honour of Remembrance Day, Year 4 pupils took part in a special assembly and produced 3D doves of peace.

We were very fortunate to be joined for assembly by a veteran who helped to explain the importance of poppies and remembering the fallen.

Following the assembly the children made 3D doves as a symbol of peace. They followed an instructional text to complete each intricate step and we are lucky to still have some of these creations on display at school.

"It is lovely to know that all these years later we still remember them." Eishan, Maple

It was such a pleasure to watch the children complete these activies in a mature manner. They were respectful at all times and understood the importance of being reflective on these important occasions.

"The Dove is a symbol of peace, but I loved hearing about how the poppy is for the soldiers and the cornflower is for animals." - Dani, Willow

" Peace to me, is sitting down and in quiet and thinking about what makes me happy!" - Nathaniel, Elm

Our Week in Year 3!

Year 3 have had an incredibly busy but exciting week!

On Tuesday we attended our first school trip of the academic year. We travelled to the cinema to watch Migration, an emotional film about a great adventure. The pupils in Year 3 not only enjoyed the trip, but were impeccably behaved and a credit to Broadford. Well done Year 3!

This week we have also celebrated children in need! The theme this year is SPOTACULAR! We have celebrated by wearing our best spotty clothing and have taken part in a range of activities to support such a great cause. We used our resourcefulness and reciprocity skills to decorate our doors with our best spotty theme and fully embraced Pudsey.

I Love Pudsey day because we get to wear yellow. - Olaf, Ash

On Pudsey day we raise money for charity! - Eva, Cherry

My favourite part was making a huge Pudsey!- Harvey, Cedar

Well done Year 3 for your hard work this week. We hope you enjoy your weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
