School Magic - Road Safety

The children from Year 3 and 4 were lucky enough to have a very special magic show last week. It was a fun and interactive show that taught them all about road safety.

The children were shocked to hear that 2064 children were involved in road accidents in London alone last year,  as the children reflected on this they were educated on how to remain safe.  One of the key messages was where your helmet when riding your scooter or bike!

A number of the children had the opportunity to take part in the show. Callie helped the magician and talked about the need for the Lolly-pop lady and how she helps us cross the road.

Year 3 become 'Nutrient Investigators!'

The Year 3’s became nutrient investigators this week following on from their lessons on food groups and nutrients in Science. Firstly we looked at a food label, and the meanings of the different colours on the front. After listening, Layla said 'if we eat food with red colours on the label, is it okay?' and we discussed eating them as part of a balanced diet.

On their tables children were given different food packaging and asked to take a look at the nutrients inside each item using the food labels. Some of the children were very surprised to find out how much sugar was in their favourite foods! After this, the children chose a particular nutrient and ordered the packaging they had from smallest amount to the biggest. Miss Betty was very impressed with the children’s resourcefulness skills as they worked together to compare the different nutrients.

We are hoping that after the children's first two Science lessons on food groups and nutrients, they will use what they learnt to help them make some healthy pizzas on their school trip to MOD.

Has your child done any further investigating at home? Or have they told you what any of the nutrients are? Comment their findings!

Year 3 - MOD Pizza Trip

Dear Parent/Carer
Dear Parents and Carers, We are delighted to inform you that the first educational visit for year 3 has been booked for the next few weeks where the children will be visiting the new MOD Pizza restaurant in Romford to take part in their pizza school initiative programme. The children will be in for a morning full of fun and education around all of the ingredients used to make the pizzas and salads. At the end of the session, each child will get to create their very own pizza and have a free lunch in the restaurant! If your child does not like pizza, please provide them with a packed lunch. Each class will be attending on a different day; Elm Class: Thursday 3rd October Cedar Class: Thursday 10th October Cherry Class: Thursday 17th October For this trip we will be travelling by bus to the restaurant in Romford. Children need to arrive in the morning promptly for 8.30am as we will be leaving at 8.55am. We will have returned by 1pm. Please fill in the attached form and return to your child’s class teacher as soon as possible. If your child has any specific dietary requirements, please could you advise the class teacher.
