Year 4 Curriculum Newsletter

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Year 4 - Autumn Curriculum Newsletter

Welcome back to the Autumn Term, we hope you had a fabulous Summer! Hopefully, you find this letter informative; please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Homework:
Our expectation at Broadford is that every child should do the following every night:
● 15 minutes reading to themselves or an adult (signed in the reading record)
● 15 minutes practicing spellings in their spelling book
● 15 minutes rehearsing times tables facts (including multiplication and division)

Mathletics:
All children have received their mathletics information. This is an online platform that the children can use to further consolidate learning. This is monitored by the class teacher and children will be rewarded for the use of Mathletics at home. Please note however, this is not compulsory.

Spellings:
Spellings will be given out on Mondays. The children should practice their words every evening. Spelling books must be brought in on Fridays, which is also when the weekly test happens. This will be closely monitored.

P.E Lessons
Ash and Birch will have PE lessons on a Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure that your child is in possession of a full, named PE kit for their lessons. Please note, swimming does not start in Year 4 until the Summer term. We will give out the relevant information about this nearer the time.

Parental help
It is always extremely valuable to have parents who are able to volunteer time to help hear the children read, or support them with their times tables. If you think that you are able to give regular time to support the children then it would be warmly welcomed.

Enrichment
This term promises to be an exciting one full of enrichment! Please see below for the experiences that will take place this term.
Romans workshop 3.10.19
Dogs Trust workshop date to be confirmed.
Pantomime 5.12.19
In addition to this, the children will be visiting and singing in Church as part of our Christmas celebrations - date to be confirmed.

Stay & Learn session
We will be welcoming all Year 4  parents into class on 31/10/19 for our first session of the year. The focus this term will be reading. We look forward to seeing you there.

Curriculum Information
We have included a summary of the topics which the children will be covering this term. If you would like to make any suggestions of what you or your child would like to learn, please inform your child’s class teacher as we welcome any suggestions you may have.
Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to the year ahead and are sure it will be full of fabulous learning experiences!

Yours sincerely,
