Year 3 we can't wait for Monday!

We cannot wait to welcome Year 3 back into Broadford's very empty classrooms!

Here's what Year 3 will be learning about for the final 4 weeks, before the Easter Holidays.

Maths - Time & Statistics (Bar Charts, Pictograms)

When we return from the Easter Holidays we will be covering Fractions and concentrating on our Number, Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division.

English - Reading: Escape to Pompeii and activities around this

Science - Forces & Magnets

Geography - Earthquakes & Volcanoes

The next four weeks we really hope to take special care with your child's wellbeing following their 'break' from school. When we return for our final Summer Term we will be readying the children for Year 4 by ensuring they are confident in as many areas of Maths & English as possible.

A reminder of expectations for the end of Year 3:

Maths :

  • Count in multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100.
  • Compare, order, read and write numbers up to 1,000.
  • Add and subtract numbers with up to three digits using formal column methods (understanding the place value of each digit).
  • Multiply and divide two digit numbers by one digit numbers using both mental and written methods (bus stop and grid).
  • Tell and write the time from analogue
Writing:
  • Show an increasing range of descriptive phrases including some collective nouns.
  • Make at least three points about a particular topic, with specific information added.
  • Use the correct tense consistently within a piece of writing.

Reading:

  • Extend skills of decoding to tackle more complex words, including unusual spelling patterns.
  • Read a wider range of texts: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, plays and text books.
  • Read, identify and summarise the main ideas in a text drawn from more than one paragraph.
  • Identify how authors choose words for effect, for example by selecting ‘wailed’ instead of ‘cried’, or ‘enraged’ rather than ‘cross’.
  • Use a dictionary to check the meaning of words you have read.
