Year 3 Stay and Learn

The Year 3 Team, would like to thank you all for attending our second Stay and Learn of the year.

The focus of the session was Maths, and it was lovely to see so many of you interacting with your children and applying different methods to solve the mathematical problems. The children were super resourceful when they were demonstrating how to complete the calculations and showed great resilience when they didn't always get it correct the first time.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out our feedback form.

Year 4 West Stow village

 Dear parents/carers

Please remember to complete the online form or the letter sent home on Friday regarding the West Stow village trip on 6th February. The form needs to be completed even if you do not wish your child to attend. We need to order packed lunches by Tuesday 30th January if the trip is still going ahead but we will also need to give adequate notice to the coach company and the village if we need to cancel in order to avoid a cancellation fee. There will be the letter/forms in the office if you need one to complete.

Thank you from the year 4 team.

Year 3 Guided Reading

Today in Guided Reading, the children engaged in an interactive session of Reader's Theatre. As part of this activity, they began by participating in echo reading. Specifically, they echoed a short extract from their class text, ‘How to Live Forever’. During this exercise, the children were encouraged to emulate the tone, speed, volume, and expression used by the characters in the text.

Following the echo reading, the children engaged in a meaningful discussion. They explored how the characters would speak and the reasoning behind it, utilising their inference skills. This discussion allowed the children to delve deeper into the nature of the characters and their motivations.

As they portrayed their characters, they were able to make insightful inferences about their traits and personalities based on the way they imagined them speaking. It allowed the children to engage with the class text on a deeper level.

“I like using a different voice and actions.” - James

“I love being confident and reading to the class.” I - Nikita

“I love to work with my friends and read together.” - Ryan

Year 3 Certificates 26.01.24

The children in Year 3 have been thoroughly engaged in their learning about diary entries. This week, they took the challenge of applying their acquired skills, incorporating their carefully planned ideas to craft their unique diary entries. They demonstrated an impressive understanding of the key features and effectively utilised engaging vocabulary to captivate their readers. The resulting diary entries were truly exceptional.

The children have made progress in their understanding of dividing a two-digit number by a one-digit number, including the concept of remainders. Additionally, they have explored the effective application of scaling, where they were provided with information and then had to apply it to either a smaller or larger quantity. To enhance their learning experience, the children engaged in activities that allowed them to explore real-life examples.

A round of applause for this week’s certificate winners!
