Today in Guided Reading, the children engaged in an interactive session of Reader's Theatre. As part of this activity, they began by participating in echo reading. Specifically, they echoed a short extract from their class text, ‘How to Live Forever’. During this exercise, the children were encouraged to emulate the tone, speed, volume, and expression used by the characters in the text.
Following the echo reading, the children engaged in a meaningful
discussion. They explored how the characters would speak and the reasoning
behind it, utilising their inference skills. This discussion allowed the
children to delve deeper into the nature of the characters and their
motivations.
As they portrayed their characters, they were able to make
insightful inferences about their traits and personalities based on the way
they imagined them speaking. It allowed the children to engage with the class
text on a deeper level.
