Practical Multiplication in Year 3

Today in maths the children were looking at multiplying 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. They realised that multiplication is the same as repeated addition and saw that 32 x 3 is just three lots of 32.

With this conceptual understanding, the children began to practically make the multiplication calculations using the Dienes blocks.
